I love technology anything to do with Engineering fascinates me. However, I particularly have an interest in communications systems and how it can be used to better advance human development. I finished a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineer but focused my final year efforts in computers and communication related subjects.
Having left the walls of University I decided to research possible jobs that align with my interest and so this led me to discovering the world of Cisco. Cisco is undoubtedly the world leader in networking gear and provides a certification program which does not only focus on their technologies but a whole lot of open standards too.
So why Cisco? Well, as I delved further into their product offerings and the technologies they cover, I was convinced this will make a good addition to my academic training. An Engineering student I was trained to think analytically and so come across the Cisco series of certification books I realised this was a natural progression for me. Now mind you, I don't have to perform equations like I used to but the concepts learnt in these books cemented the knowledge I gained from my university days. In fact, taking Cisco's certification exams helped me understand those things I struggled with back at University networking class.
Networking field is diverse as the convergence of technologies continue to blur the boundary between wireline and wireless networking it now encompasses all these things. Before the emergence of the "internetwork of things", the traditional communications network consisted of circuit switched networks mainly the telephone network PSTN (POTS) but now communications is done by packet switched networks over wire and the wireless medium.
I choose to go down this route as it has my passions all rolled into one field "computers and communications systems". I'm intrigued by how we've managed to achieve so much in such short space of time. There was once a time the telephone system was our only means of reaching our loved ones who live miles from us. Nowadays, all we have to do is ping them on BB, or skype with them via voice or video all of this was achieved using the advances in network technologies. Without the network, applications on a computer system becomes useless.
